Data Recovery
Nothing is worse than sitting down at your computer and either it’s locked up, or oops I bumped it and now it’s not starting up. When these types of events occur usually indicates issue with the internal hard drive.
When the system becomes unusable we panic, and keep trying to get it to work. When you do this the damage to the drive normally increases. The safest thing to do for your data 1st is to have backups. If not then turn the computer off and give us a call. The sooner we can get to the failing drive without user tries the more likely data can be recovered.
Common Data Loss Scenarios (2025)
| Situation | Recovery Possible? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Accidentally deleted files | ✅ Easy | Often recoverable if caught early (before overwritten) |
| Formatted drive/partition | ✅ Maybe | Depends on whether it was a “quick format” and activity since |
| Failed hard drive (HDD) | ✅ With tools/lab | Physical damage may need a professional lab |
| Failed SSD | ⚠️ Tricky | More complex than HDDs; recoverability depends on controller failure, wear, etc. |
| BitLocker-encrypted drive | ✅ Only with key | Without recovery key or password, it’s almost impossible |
| RAID/NAS failure | ✅ With expertise | Needs professional help or advanced DIY tools |
| Cloud-only deletion | ✅ Usually | Many cloud services offer version history or trash recovery |
